Emotional shock is so pervasive as to be almost invisible - until we have the eyes to see! It is an intractable force, obscuring access to our deepest Self and creating a self-perpetuating physiological cycle. Research confirms that early experiences (including prenatal stress and birth) have profound, long-term emotional effects, stifling spirituality, creativity, and human potential. Unresolved shock from the past is closely connected to sexual and physical abuse in the present. Research shows direct connections between early shock/trauma with sexual behaviours, certain kinds of depression, dysfunctional emotional patterns, addictions and chronic illnesses

Shock can be treated - but it is NOT resolved by the techniques that are effective with trauma. Unrecognized prenatal trauma is a major source of resistance and stuckness. Unfortunately, few professionals are trained to recognize, diagnose and treat shock, which causes much physical and mental health care to be less efficient and, in many cases, actually ineffective.
