Background
.
Emotional Shock and Trauma is a new approach to understand and treat emotional wounds that are rooted in painful experiences of childhood, infancy, birth, or during prenatal development. Research continues to point to earlier and earlier experiences as the foundation for most of our conscious and unconscious patterns, issues and struggles. We develop (and continue to refine) protocols for recognizing and working with the emotional wounds resulting from these very early experiences.

Most therapies and most professionals do not recognize emotional shock and don’t differentiate between the treatment for trauma and shock. This lack of understanding and skill is a major cause of resistance and the inefficiency and failure of therapy.

Emotional trauma and shock usually arise from stressful experiences during our earliest development, including prenatal development and birth. Shock obscures access to full consciousness - including the deepest and most instinctual aspects of the Self - resulting in difficulties with intimacy, spirituality and self-esteem (just to name a few).

Shock is held in the body and reactivated by events in daily life until it is resolved. Shock requires completely different treatment from trauma. The conditioned physiological shock response, if untreated, keeps us in a state of "overdrive" that leads to adrenal fatigue and, eventually, adrenal exhaustion and adrenal death. This adrenal drain is a major contributing factor to many conditions and diseases.

Trainings and Workshops
.
The recognition that emotional shock (the most severe level of trauma) is different in most ways from emotional trauma is an exciting and encouraging innovation. Most therapies and most professionals do not recognize emotional shock , and do not differentiate between the treatment for trauma and shock. This lack of understanding and skill is a major cause for therapeutic failure (or failure-to-progress), especially with shock-based syndromes such as PTSD.

My trainings and workshops cover useful and important information about:

the shock and trauma (vital differences, how to recognize and how to treat)

the common causes and long-term effects of babies’ experiences at conception, during prenatal development, during birth and afterward

concrete ways to help prevent prenatal and birth shock and trauma

direct and indirect treatment methods to support babies and adults in treating and resolving their emotional wound

This information can be cut-and-pasted into any format and any time span. It is exciting and, in some cases, startling. There is a LOT to share about pre- and perinatal psychology; many therapists who attend an introductory talk or weekend training want to learn more.

To support you in incorporating this new paradigm for treatment into your practice, I offer in-person and telephone consultation. Keep in mind two important factors:

1) shock is very contagious and your unresolved shock will get activated when working your clients’ shock, and will interfere with treatment
2) shock is much more prevalent than you might think and it is likely that your clients need this treatment

The recent recognition of shock and its unique treatment requirements is a major development. You will be doing your clients a real service to learn how to recognize and treat it.
